Girish Pardesi to direct Albert Camus’ The Just Assassins
Actor Girish Pardesi is making a transition into direction with a new play, a Hindi adaptation of classic The Just Assassins (Les Justes), written by Nobel prize winner Albert Camus, a French writer. The play will be staged at Sudarshan Rangmanch on May 29 at 7 pm.
“I feel that it is just an extension of my journey as an artiste to go further into direction from acting. This does not mean that I will forfeit acting forever,” said Pardesi.
“I have always admired Albert Camus’ work, be it his play Caligula or novels The Plague, Stranger and Myth of Sisyphus. I read the play (The Just Assassins) in 2015 and it has haunted me ever since,” said Girish.
It took him some years to bring the play to life and that too, in Hindi. Girish, a National School of Drama (NSD)
alumnus, is returning to theatre after 16 years in the television industry.
“Albert Camus is known for his theory about existentialism, nihilism and absurdity.
“I feel that every human being goes through these aspects of life, for they are indeed an inseparable part of human life. In fact, they take you on a much deeper journey inwards,” added Girish.
