Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan (JUIP),[a] better known as Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam–F (JUI–F),[b] is an Islamistpolitical party in Pakistan. It is considered one of the two main Islamist parties in Pakistan, the other being Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).
Established as the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam in 1945, it is the result of a factional split in 1988, F standing for the name of its leader, Fazal-ur-Rehman.[6][3]The party has been considered to have the largest "proven street power." in Pakistan.[7] At the time of its inception it was based in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa which are mostly inhabited by Pashtuns, but over the years it has cemented its electoral base into Balouchistan, and into Sindh. The JUI (F) is the largest splinter group of the original JUI, which split into two factions in 1980 over the policy of Pakistani president Zia-ul-Haq of supporting Mujahideen outfits in the Afghanistan war. The other faction, the much smaller JUI-S, led by Samiul Haq, is of regional significance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. PESHAWAR: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl will organise a seminar on Nov 8 (Sunday) in Peshawar to remember the contributions and services of its founding leader, Maulana Mufti Mahmood, for the country. Party chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman will be the chief guest on the occasion.
The announcement was made by JUI-F Peshawar district chief Maulana Khairul Bashr while addressing a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Thursday.
He said that the seminar was aimed at highlighting various aspects of Maulana Mufti Mehmood’s life, especially to sensitise the new generation about the contribution and services he had rendered for upholding the Islamic norms and values and his role in framing the Constitution of the country.
He said that ANP central president Asfandyar Wali Khan, QWP chairman Aftab Sherpao, JI central general secretary Liaquat Baloch, PML-N’s Amir Muqam and Pir Sabir Shah and Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani were expected to participate in the event.
